BNI Taps Growing Digital Market with Expanded Banking Ecosystem
Jakarta. State-owned Bank Negara Indonesia (BNI) is expanding its digital banking services to meet Indonesia’s growing demand for digital transactions. BNI’s Director of Digital and Integrated Transaction Banking, Hussein Paolo Kartadjoemena, said the bank aims to play a key role in the sector’s rapid growth, supported by strategic partnerships and its BNI Ecosystem solutions.
“BNI definitely wants to be an important part of the ongoing growth trend,” he said in Jakarta recently.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) previously projected that Indonesia's digital economy transaction value would reach between $220 billion and $360 billion by 2030, based on data from the East Ventures Digital Competitiveness Index 2023. This forecast was reinforced by Bank Indonesia data, which showed a 34.43 percent year-on-year (YoY) increase in digital banking transactions in the third quarter of 2024, totaling 5.67 billion transactions.
BNI's digital transformation further reflected this growth, with its digital banking transactions reaching 1.04 billion in the third quarter of 2024—a 40.9 percent increase. The transaction value also rose 26.2 percent YoY to Rp 1,104 trillion.
Given the strong potential and positive growth trend in digital transactions, Paolo is confident that the BNI Ecosystem solution is a strategic initiative, introducing innovations to deliver end-to-end banking services. He explained that the BNI Ecosystem currently comprises three main segments: the Campus Financial Ecosystem (CFEST) for universities, Smart Healthcare for hospitals and healthcare providers, and Smart Tenant for industrial areas. BNI plans to expand its ecosystem solutions to further meet customer needs.
To mark the presence of the BNI Ecosystem, a signing ceremony with strategic partners was held in Jakarta on Dec. 23, 2024. The partners include Indoglobal Nusa Persada (Pintro), Teknologi Kartu Indonesia (TKI), and Rizki Tujuhbelas Kelola (R17). These three partners are part of the Education Ecosystem (CFEST).
The next partners in the Smart Healthcare Ecosystem include Jasa Medika Transmedic (Jasamedika Transmedic) and Jejaring Tiga Artha (ZiCare). For the Smart Tenant Ecosystem, BNI is collaborating with Krakatau Information Technology (KIT) and Realta Chakra Dharma (Realta).
“Through this collaboration, we hope to strengthen the synergy of all parties to support future business growth, especially in the education, healthcare, and industrial areas in Indonesia,” he said.
Pintro President Director Syarif Hidayat welcomed the collaboration with BNI, stating, “We hope to play a significant role in building a sustainable ecosystem in Indonesia’s education sector.”
Jasamedika Chief Business Development Officer Theogratia Dinovan said the partnership allows them to deliver healthcare services more effectively and efficiently on a single platform. “BNI supports our mission to provide integrated healthcare solutions. Through this collaboration, we aim to expand accessibility anytime and anywhere for both patients and healthcare workers,” he said.
Krakatau Information Technology shared a similar view. KIT President Director Budi Tjandra Negara hopes the partnership will help integrate various services related to industrial areas and warehousing. “For us, synergy with the BNI Ecosystem is a positive step,” he said.
