BNI Donates Equipment to Sekar Tanjung Waste Management Site
Jakarta. State-owned bank BNI recently donated some equipment to a waste management facility in Sanur Kauh Village, Denpasar.
The bank had just held a cleanup of Mertasari Beach in Bali by involving residents, volunteers, and environmental groups. As part of the initiative, BNI gave a waste shredder and a plastic press to the Sekar Tanjung Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle Waste Processing Facility (TPS3R) to boost its capacity. BNI hopes this will also boost the economic value of community-based waste management.
"The beach cleanup is the first step in building collective awareness. The provision of waste management equipment is a concrete follow-up to ensure that efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness and sustainability can be sustainable and provide economic benefits to the community," BNI Vice President Commissioner Tedi Bharata said.
The Sekar Tanjung TPS3R currently provides integrated waste management services to around 1,200 households. It can process up to 3 tons of waste per day.
Waste management is carried out through a structured sorting system for organic, inorganic, and residual waste. Organic waste is processed into compost, while inorganic waste with economic value, such as plastic bottles, metal, and various types of packaging, is sorted and distributed to collectors through the waste bank. This scheme contributes to reducing the volume of waste ending up in landfills, while also opening up economic opportunities for the surrounding community.
Sekar Tanjung TPS3R head I Wayan Merta said that BNI's aid would have a tangible impact on the site's operations.
"The shredder and plastic press machines are expected to improve our work efficiency and the quality of the processed results, especially for inorganic waste that has a marketable value," he said.
The facility currently employs 23 workers, most of whom are from the surrounding community. Optimal waste management is considered capable of providing sustainable economic benefits while strengthening community environmental awareness.
BNI went on to say that these activities reaffirm the bank's commitment to promote reduce, reuse, and recycle practices via multistakeholder collaboration in line with its leading role in sustainable finance.
