Bali. The Directorate General of Immigration, Immigration and Correctional Affairs Ministry, has deported a United States (US) citizen who organized sexual retreat classes in Bali.

The individual, identified as a 44-year-old woman with the initials JRG, was found to have misused her stay permit while in Bali.

JRG was arrested by the Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team on Sept. 16, as she was about to fly to Jakarta via I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. She was subsequently deported on Thursday.

“Every foreign national in Indonesia is required to comply with immigration regulations and respect the prevailing legal norms. We will take firm action against anyone who abuses their stay permit,” said Winarko, Head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office Class I Special TPI, in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

The case began with a public report raising suspicions about JRG’s activities in the Seminyak area. Following up on the report, the Intelligence Team conducted on-site surveillance as well as cyber monitoring.

Evidence was found that JRG held an "Intimacy Mastery Retreat" from September 4–8 at a villa in Seminyak. The retreat was a private program that taught about intimate relationships, emotional closeness, and sexual activities.

The event was paid and attended by participants from various countries. According to Winarko, photos of equipment related to sexual activities were found during the event.

In fact, JRG had arrived in Bali on Sept. 4, using a Visa on Arrival (VoA), valid until October 4. However, she misused her stay permit by conducting commercial activities that were not in accordance with her visa.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Intelligence and Enforcement Team then secured JRG on September 16, arresting her as she was about to fly to Jakarta. JRG violated immigration rules by using a tourist visa to run a paid sexual retreat business in Bali, which falls under a misuse of stay permit punishable with deportation under Article 75(1) of Law Number 6 of 2011 on Immigration.
