Police Investigate Death of Dutch National at Bali Hotel
Denpasar, Bali. A 60-year-old Dutch national has died after being found on the grounds of a hotel in Uluwatu, Bali, with police investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
The man, identified by police as MJR, was found on Saturday night, Sept. 12, at a hotel in Ungasan village, South Kuta district, Badung regency.
Denpasar Police spokesman I Gede Adi Saputra Jaya said CCTV footage indicated that MJR had apparently jumped from a barrier on the hotel's fifth floor at around 10:14 p.m. local time.
“He was then found lying on a road within the hotel grounds,” Adi said, as quoted by state news agency Antara on Tuesday.
The incident was first reported after a restaurant staff member was alerted by a hotel guest about a man lying on a road inside the property. Hotel staff subsequently notified their supervisor and checked on the victim from an upper floor.
An ambulance from BIMC Nusa Dua Hospital later arrived at the scene, where medical personnel examined the victim.
Police said an initial examination found several injuries, including wounds to the abdomen and right elbow, as well as a fracture to the right wrist.
The Denpasar Police identification team estimated that the fifth floor was about 14 meters above the ground.
Investigators are examining CCTV footage to establish MJR's movements in the minutes before he was found and to determine the sequence of events leading to his death.
According to hotel management, MJR had been staying at the property since Aug. 16. The hotel had reportedly asked him several times to settle his accommodation bill, but the payment had not been made before the incident.
Police said the investigation remains ongoing as they work to establish the circumstances and cause of the Dutch national's death.
