Turkish National Named Suspect After Multi-Vehicle Crash Injures Seven in Bali
Badung, Bali. Indonesian police have named a 46-year-old Turkish national as a suspect after the vehicle he was driving crashed into multiple vehicles in Bali, injuring seven people.
The suspect, identified by his initials OSA, was driving a black Daihatsu Rocky when the accident occurred on Merta Sari Street in Kerobokan Kelod, North Kuta, Badung Regency, on Monday. He is currently being detained at the Badung Police headquarters.
"We have completed the case review and a series of investigative procedures, including questioning the Turkish national. He has now been officially named a suspect," Badung Traffic Police chief AKP Ni Luh Tiviasih said on Friday.
The crash, which gained widespread attention on social media, involved several motorcycles and a Suzuki APV minivan. The Daihatsu Rocky sustained significant damage and has been seized by police as evidence.
Ni Luh said all seven victims received medical treatment at two hospitals in Badung and neighboring Denpasar. Investigators processed the crash scene, collected evidence, questioned witnesses, and reviewed footage from nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras as part of the investigation.
Police concluded that OSA was neither under the influence of alcohol nor illegal drugs at the time of the crash. During questioning, he told investigators that he had recently arrived in Indonesia, was staying in Surabrata village in neighboring Tabanan Regency, and had been driving while fatigued and drowsy.
He has been charged under Articles 310(3), 310(2), and/or Article 312 of Indonesia's Road Traffic and Transportation Law. If convicted, he faces a maximum prison sentence of five years.
