Jakarta. Indonesia's immigration authorities have imposed administrative sanctions on 10,911 foreign nationals for suspected immigration violations between January and August 2026, a 146.49% increase from the same period last year.

Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko said the sanctions reflected stepped-up enforcement against foreigners considered to have violated immigration rules or disrupted public order.

"We have imposed TAK on 10,911 people. That's up 146% from the previous year, so the Directorate of Supervision and Enforcement is currently very active in accelerating enforcement," Hendarsam said at a press briefing in South Jakarta on Wednesday.

The sanctions were imposed on foreigners deemed to have violated administrative immigration regulations, failed to contribute positively to Indonesia or disrupted public order, he said.

Hendarsam said the enforcement was part of efforts to ensure that foreign nationals staying in Indonesia complied with immigration regulations and did not pose a threat to security and public order.

Immigration authorities also issued 2,678 entry bans during the period, down 58.79% from the same period in 2025.

Meanwhile, authorities pursued criminal cases through pro justitia proceedings against 27 foreigners, a 50% decline from the previous year.

Another 478 foreigners were placed on the prevention list, restricting them from leaving Indonesia, down 80.98% from 2025.

Hendarsam stressed that immigration violations do not automatically result in deportation. Authorities determine the appropriate action based on the nature and severity of each violation.

"Some cases must go through pro justitia proceedings. It depends on the classification of the violation — whether it is merely an administrative violation or has entered the criminal sphere," he concluded.
