Jakarta. US President Donald Trump praised his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto for coming to the Egypt summit that saw the historic signing of a Gaza peace pact on Monday local time.

Political leaders from around the world gathered in the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh for the signing of a Trump-brokered declaration aimed at ending the two-year war in Gaza. Trump, alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, formally signed the document with the other world leaders seated behind them. It was during this ceremony that Trump thanked his foreign counterparts, including Prabowo, who were in attendance.

“Also with us is President Prabowo, a very incredible man of Indonesia,” Trump said.

He then called on Prabowo to walk closer to him to shake hands, saying: “President, come here. … Great job.”

Trump later also called Indonesia "a big and powerful country."

“It does unbelievably well and it's great to have you."

The signed text reads that the leaders are committed to using diplomatic engagement and negotiation to resolve future disputes, according to a copy published by the White House. The leaders also welcomed the progress in the peace arrangements, as well as the "friendly and mutually beneficial relationship between Israel and its regional neighbors". The White House titled the document as “The Trump Declaration for Enduring Peace and Prosperity".

According to the Foreign Ministry, Prabowo is set to fly back home right after his agenda in Egypt, while also denying reports that he would be traveling to Israel the following day.

Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel have carried out a prisoner swap deal. Ahead of the Egypt summit, Israel freed almost 2,000 imprisoned Palestinians. Hamas also released 20 Israeli captives held in the Gaza Strip.
