Jakarta. National Democratic Party (Nasdem) Chairman Surya Paloh confirmed on Wednesday that he and his party accepted the results of the February 14 elections and extended congratulations to Prabowo Subianto and running mate Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the newly elected president and vice president.

Nasdem has nominated former Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan for president, but the final certified vote tally earlier in the day declared Prabowo as the outright winner with 58 percent of the vote.

Surya's acknowledgment is pivotal for ensuring a seamless transition of power and for encouraging other parties in the coalition behind Anies’ candidacy to follow suit.

"On behalf of the Nasdem Party, I extend congratulations to the duo of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka on their victory in the 2024 presidential election," Surya said during a news conference at Nasdem Tower in Jakarta.

"The Nasdem Party urges all segments of the nation to prioritize national interests over partisan interests,” he added.

He dismissed any plan by Nasdem to call for a House of Representatives inquiry into the elections, questioning the urgency of such a move.

"If there is no compelling reason to do that, why should we force ourselves [to initiate a House inquiry]?" he said.

However, Surya mentioned that Nasdem intends to file lawsuits contesting legislative election results in at least six electoral districts in Sumatra, Papua, and Java.

Nasdem secured 9.66 percent of the vote in the legislative election, placing it in sixth position overall.
