Prabowo Wins West Java by 7.7 Million Votes
Bandung. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto has won West Java by 7.7 million votes from closest rival Anies Baswedan to further cement his overall lead nationwide.
However, five of all 38 provinces have not certified their results from the Feb. 14 presidential and legislative elections as of Monday, putting a hold on the formal announcement by the General Election Commission (KPU).
West Java is among those five provinces as it needed more time to conclude the vote count for the parliamentary election.
The final tally from the presidential election in Indonesia’s most populous province shows that Prabowo won 16.8 million votes, followed by Anies with 9.1 million votes and Ganjar Pranowo with 2.82 million votes.
Prabowo, who teamed up with the president’s son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as his running mate, is projected to win the presidency by 58 percent of the vote.
His tally is now closer to exceeding the 100 million mark when results from Papua, Papua Mountains, Southwest Papua, and Maluku are submitted to the commission on Tuesday.
The KPU has until Wednesday to announce and certify the national results from the presidential and legislative elections.
