Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto is set to spend New Year’s Eve in disaster-affected areas of Sumatra, overseeing emergency response and recovery efforts.

State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi told reporters in Jakarta on Monday that the president plans to return to regions impacted by recent natural disasters as the country marks the transition into 2026. He did not specify which locations Prabowo will visit.

The visit follows Prabowo’s earlier commitment to conduct regular inspections of disaster-hit regions in Sumatra to monitor relief operations and reconstruction progress. Speaking at a full cabinet meeting at the presidential palace on Dec. 15, Prabowo said he planned to visit affected areas at least once a week.

The president added that he has already made several trips to disaster zones, including three visits to Aceh, two to North Sumatra and one to West Sumatra, since taking office.

“I plan to go there again soon. I intend to visit at least once a week to directly monitor developments,” Prabowo said recently.

According to the president, routine on-site visits are essential to ensure that emergency response measures, infrastructure rehabilitation and the delivery of basic services to affected communities proceed as planned. He stressed that direct supervision allows the government to quickly identify and resolve obstacles in the field.
