Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has set a target to modernize up to 400 hospitals across Indonesia within the next three years as part of a nationwide effort to improve access to healthcare services and strengthen regional medical facilities.

Prabowo said the government and the Health Ministry had prepared a large-scale plan to upgrade healthcare infrastructure throughout the country.

“Over the next three years, we will build new hospitals where necessary. But if renovation is sufficient, we will upgrade and modernize between 350 and 400 hospitals across Indonesia’s regencies,” Prabowo said at the inauguration of KH Muhammad Thohir Regional General Hospital in Pesisir Barat, Lampung, on Wednesday.

The hospital modernization program is intended to expand access to healthcare services while improving the capacity and quality of medical treatment in regional areas.

In addition to hospitals, the government plans to modernize around 10,000 community health centers, or locally called Puskesmas, nationwide to strengthen primary healthcare services, particularly in remote and underserved regions, he said.

Prabowo said the government is also accelerating the modernization of the national healthcare system through the procurement and distribution of advanced medical equipment.

Nearly 1,000 units of modern medical equipment have already been distributed to regional hospitals in all 514 regencies and cities across the country, he said.

The additional equipment is expected to improve the ability of regional hospitals to provide medical treatment locally, reducing the need for patients to travel to major cities for specialized healthcare services.

Prabowo cited KH Muhammad Thohir Regional General Hospital as an example of the government's efforts to strengthen healthcare services outside major urban centers.

“This hospital already has modern medical equipment, and we will continue to improve it,” he said.
