Prabowo Proposes Cybersecurity Education Amid Indonesia's Vulnerability to Data Breach
Jakarta. Presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto will prioritize the development of cyber defense systems to protect crucial government data and information. To achieve this goal, Prabowo's team proposes integrating cybersecurity education into schools and universities.
"We have a concept known as DDNA (Device, Data, Network, and Application), in which we call for the independence and fortification of these aspects. We must reduce our dependence on foreign nations in these critical areas," Vice Chairman of Prabowo's campaign team, Budiman Sudjatmiko said on Sunday.
Presidential candidates -- Prabowo Subianto, Ganjar Pranowo, and Anies Baswedan -- will take the stage once again for a debate on defense, security, geopolitics, and international relations on Sunday.
Budiman said that the decision to bolster Indonesia's cybersecurity was due to the perceived vulnerability to foreign cyber attacks, resulting from the country's reliance on external sources for cyber defense technology.
Budiman said that Prabowo, the Minister of Defense, has already initiated cybersecurity education at the Defense University (Unhan). The plan is to extend these educational initiatives to universities nationwide.
"This is evidence of Mr. Prabowo's genuine concern for cyber defense and security. If elected as the President, greater strides in this direction will undoubtedly be taken," added Sudjatmiko.
The urgency of cybersecurity measures is underscored by various data breaches in 2023, including the leakage of 19.56 million users' data from social security agency BPJS Ketenagakerjaan on the dark web, the financial sector breach at Bank Syariah Indonesia in May, and the hacking incident by Bjorka, who claimed to have compromised 35 million My IndiHome user data in June.
