Prabowo Calls for Unity as KPU Declares Him Elected President
Jakarta. The General Election Commission (KPU) Chairman, Hasyim Asy’ari, has officially declared Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuning Raka as the elected President and Vice President for the 2024-2029 leadership term.
The declaration was made during an open plenary meeting at the KPU building in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.
"The KPU declares the presidential and vice-presidential pair, Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the elected President and Vice President for the 2024-2029 term," said Hasyim.
Hasyim said that Prabowo-Gibran fulfilled the requirements to become the elected president and vice president with a total of 96,214,691 votes, equivalent to 58.59 percent. This number also meets the requirement of at least 20 percent of the votes from 38 provinces in Indonesia.
The official document consists of 24 paragraphs, each signed by the chairman and members of the KPU.
Prabowo stated that starting today, he and Gibran will work hard to prepare themselves to lead Indonesia for the next five years.
"Thank you, today we come to the KPU as part of the process we have gone through together. We have followed the entire presidential election process. Today we receive the decree from the KPU and will start working hard to prepare ourselves," said Prabowo upon arriving at the KPU office on Imam Bonjol Street, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Prabowo invited all elements of society, especially political elites, to unite again to build the nation.
"I think what's important now is our obligation to work together. The people hope and demand that all political leaders work together, work for the people," added Prabowo.
Also present at the event were rival candidate Anies Baswedan and his running mate Muhaimin Iskandar, as well as political elite supporters from the National Democratic Party (Nasdem), the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the National Awakening Party (PKB).
However, presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo from PDI-P and his running mate, Mohammad Mahfud MD, were absent from the ceremony. PDI-P continues its challenge against the 2024 Presidential Election results to the Administrative Court (PTUN) after the Constitutional Court rejected it.
