Prabowo Calls for Middle East Unity in Talks with UAE, Qatar Leaders
Jakarta/Abu Dhabi. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto met with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan (MBZ) in Abu Dhabi on Friday, with both leaders urging Middle Eastern countries to strengthen unity amid rising geopolitical tensions.
The meeting came just hours after Prabowo held talks in Doha with Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, where he conveyed Indonesia’s support and solidarity following Israel’s unprecedented airstrike on the Qatari capital earlier this week.
The Israeli strike on Tuesday targeted what the military described as a Hamas political leadership hub in Doha. The attack killed five Hamas members, including the son of Khalil al-Hayya, Hamas’s Gaza leader and chief negotiator, but spared the group’s top figures. The incident shocked the region, threatened US.-backed ceasefire talks for Gaza, and was condemned by Qatar as a “flagrant violation of international law.”
Prabowo said Indonesia fully supported Qatar’s sovereignty and stood with its people during the crisis. He emphasized the need for stronger international solidarity in response to actions that threaten regional stability, urging global actors to oppose aggression against civilians. He added that diplomacy rooted in humanitarian values and justice was essential to building a more stable future.
Emir Tamim welcomed Indonesia’s support and underlined his commitment to strengthening ties with Jakarta, particularly in global diplomacy and humanitarian initiatives.
In Abu Dhabi, Prabowo and MBZ discussed the escalating conflict in the Middle East and broader global security challenges. Both leaders emphasized the importance of regional unity and international cooperation in preserving peace.
“Unity is essential for the region to navigate today’s shifting geopolitical landscape,” Prabowo said.
Beyond security issues, the talks also focused on advancing bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the UAE. Prabowo described the UAE as not only a close friend but also a strategic partner, while MBZ reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening ties with Indonesia across multiple sectors.
