Jakarta. The Metro Jaya Police have advanced their investigation into a controversial meeting between former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Chairman Firli Bahuri and ex-Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo (SYL) at a sports hall in West Jakarta. The case, which involves allegations of extortion, has been upgraded to the investigation stage following a case review.

Ade Safri Simanjuntak, Director of Special Crimes at Metro Jaya Police, said that the case file, including allegations of extortion by Firli, a former police general, against SYL, will be submitted to the Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office.

"We promise that the investigation will be conducted professionally, transparently, and accountably. Professionalism means transparency and thoroughness," he added.

SYL was arrested by the KPK last October on charges of corruption during his 2020-2023 term. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

SYL had reported then-KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri for alleged extortion during the initial investigation, leading to a separate criminal investigation by the police and Firli's resignation from the commission amid the high-profile corruption case.
