Pertamina Oil Tanker Catches Fire, Three Crew Members Missing

Jakarta. A fire broke out at a state-run oil company Pertamina’s oil tanker carrying 5,900 kiloliters of gasoline and 17 crew members off West Nusa Tenggara on Sunday. 

Three crew members couldn’t be found when rescue workers with the help of local fishermen evacuated people onboard.

The MT Christin tanker was sailing near Ampenan Coast, Mataram, when the incident occurred at around 14:50 local time (06:50 GMT).

“The chartered tanker carried 5,900 kiloliters of gasoline product Pertalite and planned to unload 2,700 kiloliters at the fuel terminal of Ampenan harbor,” said Taufik Kurniawan, a spokesman for Pertamina’s trading arms Pertamina Patra Niaga.

He said 14 crew members have been safely evacuated.

The missing crew members are identified as Diki Abdul Aziz (deck officer), Sukirman (deck boss), and Dani Maulana (deck cadet).
