Jakarta. Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) displayed several luxury vehicles on Thursday, including a Nissan GTR sports car and two Ducati motorcycles, seized during a late-night corruption raid that led to the arrest of Vice Manpower Minister Immanuel Ebenezer and several others.

The sleek blue Nissan and red-and-white Ducatis were showcased outside the KPK headquarters in Jakarta, drawing media attention ahead of a press briefing.

KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto confirmed the vehicles were among assets confiscated during the operation. “We also seized cash, dozens of cars, and Ducati bikes,” he said.

In Indonesia, the Ducati Streetfighter can fetch up to Rp 1.9 billion ($116,000), while the Ducati Multistrada sells for about Rp 1.3 billion ($79,000). The two Ducatis in KPK custody represent both models..

Alleged Extortion Scheme
Fitroh said Immanuel was arrested on suspicion of extorting companies seeking occupational safety and health certification from the Manpower Ministry. He did not provide further details, noting that a full press conference was scheduled for Thursday evening to announce whether Immanuel and other detainees would be formally named suspects.

Immanuel, who took office in October 2024, has seen his declared assets surge to Rp 17.6 billion ($1.07 million) from Rp 4.8 billion in less than three years, according to official wealth disclosures.

Known as an outspoken official, Immanuel often aligned himself with labor unions, joined their rallies, and carried out surprise factory inspections where he publicly criticized employers.

Immanuel’s arrest adds to a long list of Indonesian ministers and senior officials entangled in corruption scandals. In 2020, former Social Affairs Minister Juliari Batubara was jailed for 12 years over a Covid-19 aid procurement scandal. That same year, former Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo was sentenced to five years for bribery related to lobster seed exports. Earlier, in 2014, Energy Minister Jero Wacik was convicted in a graft case linked to extortion and misuse of ministry funds.

The KPK, established in 2002, has built a reputation as one of Indonesia’s most formidable anti-graft bodies, though its powers were weakened in 2019 following legislative changes. Still, it continues to pursue high-profile cases that shake the political establishment.
