Jakarta. Members of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s cabinet are anticipating a smooth transition of power five months into his retirement, a senior minister said on Monday.

Jokowi is set to conclude his second term on October 20 and give way to his successor Prabowo Subianto who will lead the country alongside elected vice president Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who is Jokowi’s eldest son.

Prabowo is currently a member of the Jokowi cabinet, serving as the defense minister.

"We focus on our jobs and maintain good coordination with fellow cabinet members," said Muhadjir Effendy, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.

The transition of presidential power was discussed in a cabinet meeting a few days ago. Hence, all ministers presumably understood the process including the new budget under the upcoming government, he added.

"There will be no pressing issues and [the transition] will proceed smoothly," Muhadjir said.

Eko Listiyanto from the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) said earlier the transition will face no hurdle because Prabowo’s campaign theme is similar to Jokowi’s policies and programs.

"The central theme of Prabowo’s presidential campaign is continuity. He has vowed to carry on with Jokowi’s legacy so we can anticipate a seamless transition of power,” Eko said.
