Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo plans to send medical workers to war-torn Gaza and set up a makeshift field hospital to help Palestinians injured by the ongoing Israeli military campaign, Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto said on Thursday.

Prabowo visited the president at the State Palace in Jakarta to report on his recent participation in an international dialogue in Singapore, where he revealed Indonesia’s determination to provide more humanitarian assistance to Palestine.

"I reported to the president about the current situation in Gaza, and he fully supports my stance. He even instructed me to set up a field hospital and send our medical workers to Gaza," Prabowo told reporters after the meeting.

Prabowo will be installed as president on October 20, succeeding Jokowi, whose son, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, will serve as vice president.

Prabowo said Indonesia will collaborate with countries in the Middle East, most notably the United Arab Emirates, in providing humanitarian assistance to Gaza residents.

During the meeting, Jokowi also instructed his future successor to attend a summit in Jordan discussing the conflict in Gaza and to visit Saudi Arabia, Prabowo said.

During the seminar in Singapore last weekend, Prabowo said Indonesia is ready to send a peacekeeping force under the UN flag to Gaza and evacuate up to 1,000 patients for medical treatment in Indonesia.
