Jokowi Has Four Candidates to Replace Firli as KPK Commissioner
Jakarta. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has four candidates to choose from to fill the commissioner position of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) vacated by Firli Bahuri.
Firli was recently removed as the KPK chairman after the National Police slapped him with criminal charges over alleged extortion against a suspect being investigated by the KPK.
Subsequently, the KPK’s oversight body found Firli guilty of an ethics breach related to the criminal charges put forward by the police, prompting the president to terminate Firli’s employment at the commission.
Jokowi has appointed KPK Commissioner Nawawi Pomolango as the interim leader, but the five-member commission requires a full team to function.
According to the KPK law, the substitute for a commissioner must be one of the candidates who participated in the final selection process conducted by the House of Representatives.
There were five candidates who failed to qualify for the current term of KPK’s leadership at the House selection stage, including Sigit Danang Joyo, Luthfi Jayadi Kurniawan, I Nyoman Wara, Roby Arya Brata, and Johanes Tanak.
However, Johanes already stood in for another dismissed KPK commissioner, Lili Pintauli Siregar, who was also found guilty of an ethics breach in a separate investigation by the oversight body last year.
That left only four names available to replace Firli for his remaining year of the five-year tenure.
