Jakarta Offers Free Transport and Tourist Attractions for 499th Anniversary Celebrations
Jakarta. Jakarta is opening its doors wider during its 499th anniversary celebrations, offering free access to major tourist attractions and public transport on June 22, 27, and 28, 2026, in a citywide push to boost mobility, tourism, and public participation in the festivities.
Governor Pramono Anung said the decision to waive entry fees and fares was made after public feedback, particularly from residents outside the capital who wanted to take part in the anniversary events.
“After receiving input from many parties, especially those coming from outside Jakarta, the program will not be limited to Jakarta ID holders but will apply to all Indonesian citizens,” Pramono said in Jakarta on Sunday..
The policy applies to a wide range of city-run attractions, including the Ragunan Zoo, Monas (National Monument), Jakarta History Museum, Museum Taman Prasasti, Museum MH Thamrin, and Museum Joang '45, among others.
Other participating sites include the Fine Arts and Ceramics Museum, Wayang Museum, Textile Museum, Maritime Museum, Betawi Museum, Rumah Si Pitung, and Taman Benyamin Sueb.
In addition to tourism sites, the Jakarta provincial government will also make public transportation free, covering the MRT Jakarta, TransJakarta buses, and the LRT Jakarta.
Private operator Ancol also announced free entry to the Ancol Dreamland, including its beach areas, during the same three-day period, from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Ragunan Zoo will also introduce special programs for the anniversary period, including interactive quizzes with prizes and extended night zoo operations as part of the celebrations.
New Train Station
Beyond tourism, Jakarta is also preparing for the inauguration of a new commuter rail station at Jakarta International Stadium (JIS), alongside supporting infrastructure aimed at improving urban mobility in the city’s north.
State-owned operator KAI Commuter has completed key facilities at the station, including ticketing counters, passenger access gates, and toilets, ensuring readiness for public operations.
A newly built 466-meter pedestrian bridge connecting Ancol Dreamland and JIS has also been completed. The structure is designed to improve access between the stadium and surrounding tourism zones.
The station and bridge are scheduled to be inaugurated by Pramono on Monday.
Officials say the new infrastructure is expected to improve access for large-scale events at JIS, including sports matches, concerts, and international gatherings, while strengthening integration between tourism and transport networks in North Jakarta.
KAI Commuter said the integration of the station, pedestrian bridge, and surrounding facilities will help reduce reliance on private vehicles and improve overall public transport efficiency.
