Kuala Lumpur Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Monday signed a Letter of Intent with Kuala Lumpur City Hall to formalize a sister city partnership, marking the Indonesian capital’s third such agreement in the past six months.

The deal, signed with Kuala Lumpur Mayor Dato’ Seri Maimunah, aims to expand cooperation across sectors, including public health, flood mitigation, green building and energy decarbonization, sustainable transport, waste management, and cultural and tourism exchanges.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Pramono said the visit fulfilled a promise he made to Maimunah to meet in person. “We are close neighbors, sharing history and culture, and we have the same goal, building a sustainable future for our residents,” he said.

The Kuala Lumpur accord follows Jakarta’s recent sister city agreements with Chungcheongnam-do in South Korea and Heidelberg in Germany. Pramono said both capitals face common challenges such as traffic congestion, rising demand for public services, and climate change.

Mayor Maimunah welcomed the delegation, calling the governor’s visit a “meaningful gesture” and expressing optimism that the partnership would yield tangible benefits.

Pramono said the sister city arrangement is more than symbolic. “It is a concrete platform to address shared challenges and build resilient, livable, and sustainable cities for the next generation,” he said.
