Indonesia Records 14 Million Foreign Tourist Visits in Jan–Nov Period, BPS Says
Jakarta. Foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia climbed in November compared to the same period last year, extending a steady recovery in the country’s travel sector amid strong domestic mobility and improving hotel occupancy, official data showed.
The number of international visitors reached 1.20 million in November 2025, up 9.79% from 1.09 million a year earlier, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). On a monthly basis, arrivals were down by 11%, reflecting softer inflows from several key markets.
From January to November 2025, Indonesia recorded a total of 13.98 million foreign tourist visits, an increase of 10.44% compared with the same period in 2024, BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Pudji Ismartini said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Monday.
“The cumulative figure shows a solid year-on-year improvement in foreign arrivals,” Pudji said.
By nationality, Malaysian visitors accounted for the largest share of arrivals in November at 17.3%, followed by Australians at 11.3% and Singaporeans at 10.5%.
Bali’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport remained the country’s main gateway for foreign tourists, particularly Australians. However, BPS noted a month-on-month decline in arrivals through the airport, partly due to fewer visitors from Australia, India, and China during the period.
Domestic tourism continued to provide a strong backbone for the sector. Trips by Indonesian travelers reached 96.45 million journeys in November 2025, marking a 19.64% increase from the same month last year. On a cumulative basis, domestic tourist trips totaled 1.09 billion from January to November 2025, surpassing the full-year figure recorded in 2024.
Outbound travel by Indonesians also showed an upward trend. In November, overseas trips by Indonesian residents totaled 794,733 journeys, rising both month-on-month and year-on-year. Cumulatively, outbound trips reached 8.34 million during the January–November period, higher than a year earlier.
Improving travel activity was mirrored in hotel performance. The average hotel room occupancy rate for star-rated hotels stood at 53.89% in November, up 1.05 percentage points from October, although it remained 1.07 percentage points lower than in November 2024.
