Immigration Minister Orders Full Cooperation With KPK After High-Profile Arrests
Jakarta. Immigration and Corrections Minister Agus Andrianto on Thursday pledged full cooperation with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) as it investigates an alleged corruption scheme involving senior immigration officials.
Agus instructed all ministry personnel to cooperate fully with investigators and promised unrestricted access to data, documents, and testimony needed to accelerate the investigation.
“The ongoing legal process must be fully supported. This is a moment for us to improve and strengthen immigration governance so that it becomes cleaner, more transparent, and more accountable,” Agus said in a statement.
His remarks came after the KPK detained Deputy Immigration and Corrections Minister Silmy Karim, West Jakarta Immigration Office chief Ronald Arman Abdullah, West Java regional immigration office head Jaya Saputra, former Immigration Director General Saffar Muhammad Godam, and four other individuals whose identities have not yet been disclosed.
Investigators allege that the suspects operated a long-running extortion scheme targeting foreign nationals seeking limited stay permits (KITAS) and permanent stay permits (KITAP), generating losses estimated in the hundreds of billions of rupiah.
As part of the ministry’s disciplinary response, Agus said the officials implicated in the case had been suspended to ensure the investigation proceeds without interference and to safeguard the integrity of the institution.
Agus also sought to reassure the public that immigration services would continue operating normally despite the high-profile arrests.
“We will ensure that public services are not disrupted by the ongoing legal process,” he said.
