Solo, Central Java. Solo Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka said on Saturday he was summoned by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, or PDI-P, after he was seen at an informal gathering where a group of people declared support for Prabowo Subianto’s presidential aspiration.

Gibran, the eldest son of President Joko Widodo, claimed that he was only accompanying Prabowo for a dinner at a local café to honor the latter's visit on Friday evening.

However, during the occasion, a man claiming to represent supporters of Gibran and the president shared a table with Prabowo and declared support for him for the 2024 presidential election.

PDI-P Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto called Gibran to come to the PDI-P headquarters in Jakarta after the media reported the event.

“I was summoned to meet with the party's central leadership on Monday morning, maybe in connection to that event. I was called by the secretary-general,” Gibran told reporters in Solo.

Gibran said he would accept if the unexpected event landed him a sanction from the ruling party, which already nominated Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo for president.

“I’m ready for a reprimand. It was just dinner yesterday and I stepped aside when the discussion about the presidential nomination began,” Gibran said.

In the YouTube video from the event, Gibran could be seen declining a request by Prabowo to sit next to him. Instead, he stood near the table and was out of the camera frame.

He said he didn’t make any statement about Prabowo’s presidential bid.

“That didn’t come out of my mouth -- if I support somebody,” Gibran said.
