Jakarta. Former Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chairman Mochamad Iriawan officially became a member of the Great Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra) -after he met with party founder Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Thursday evening.

Iriawan, who served as the Jakarta Police chief before leading the national football governing body, was not the only prominent figure to be awarded Gerindra membership during the event at Prabowo’s residence in South Jakarta.

“Comr. Gen. Mochamad Irawan and Wamardi Yahya who is currently the vice governor of South Sulawesi are accepted as members of Gerindra,” Prabowo said.

Iriawan was immediately installed as the deputy chairman of Gerindra’s advisory board in the gathering attended by more than 150 party executives.

He is reportedly aiming for the 2024 West Java gubernatorial election representing Gerindra.

The 1984 Police Academy graduate had a brief spell as the acting West Java governor in 2018 before the local election was concluded.
