Jakarta. Indonesia opened its FIFA Series 2026 campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Saint Kitts and Nevis at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Friday, handing head coach John Herdman his first win since taking charge in January.

Attacking midfielder Beckham Putra emerged as the standout performer, scoring twice in the first half to set the tone for the hosts’ dominant display.

Beckham broke the deadlock in the 15th minute, sprinting from midfield to latch onto a through ball from Ole Romeny before calmly slotting past the goalkeeper. He doubled Indonesia’s lead just 10 minutes later, again finishing off a well-weighted pass from Romeny.

Indonesia maintained control after the break, continuing to press for more goals. Beckham nearly completed his hat trick with a curling effort from outside the penalty area, but it narrowly missed the target.

Romeny, after providing two assists, added his name to the scoresheet in the 51st minute. The Oxford United forward capitalized on a loose ball from a corner kick to make it 3-0.

Substitute Mauro Zijlstra extended the lead in the 75th minute, finishing a precise pass from fellow substitute Joey Pelupessy with a low strike into the corner, putting the result beyond doubt.

Despite being largely on the back foot, Saint Kitts and Nevis created a late chance through Romaine Sawyers in the 82nd minute, but his effort struck the post, denying the visitors a consolation goal. Indonesia goalkeeper Maarten Paes had little to do for most of the match as the defense remained disciplined throughout.

Indonesia thought they had added a fifth goal when Yakob Sayuri found the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

The 4-0 scoreline held until the final whistle, securing Indonesia’s place in the FIFA Series final.

Herdman said the result met expectations, particularly given the limited preparation time.

“This is the first time we’ve played together with only a few training sessions, but I’m really proud of the players tonight,” he said after the match.

He highlighted defensive discipline as a key factor behind the clean sheet, saying that Saint Kitts and Nevis created few meaningful chances.

“The journey is still long, and we will face a tough match against Bulgaria next. We rotated quite a lot of players, so we’re looking forward to the final on Monday,” Herdman added.

Indonesia will face European side Bulgaria national football team in the FIFA Series final at the same venue on Monday.
