Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has appointed Lt. Gen. Ariyo Windutomo as acting presidential chief of staff, replacing Listyo Sigit Prabowo, who was dismissed from the position after being named a suspect in an alleged illegal wiretapping case targeting the president.

State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi said Wednesday that Prabowo had signed a presidential decree formally dismissing Listyo from the position of presidential chief of staff.

"Earlier this morning, the president made a decision and signed a presidential decree concerning the dismissal of Mr. Listyo Sigit Prabowo in his capacity as presidential chief of staff," Prasetyo told reporters at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Prabowo subsequently appointed Ariyo, who previously served as head of the Presidential Secretariat (Kasetpres), as acting chief of staff to temporarily fill the vacancy.

Ariyo's appointment comes amid a serious legal case involving three active police generals accused of illegal wiretapping, electronic evidence destruction and unauthorized access targeting the president and several other figures. Besides Listyo, the suspects include Inspector General Ahrie Sonta and Inspector General Eko Hadi.

Prasetyo said Prabowo was deeply concerned about the developments and considered the case a serious matter requiring decisive action.

"The president once again expresses his profound concern over these developments," he said.

He added that the president believed the situation required immediate attention, particularly because one of the individuals implicated in the case had held the position of presidential chief of staff.

The government has also coordinated with National Police Chief Suyudi Ario Seto to ensure that public services delivered through the police institution continue without disruption.

Prasetyo said the government would ensure that the alleged wiretapping case was handled in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, providing legal certainty over the rules governing surveillance activities.

He further suggested that the alleged actions could amount to an attempt to undermine the state and threaten national interests, including the safety of the country's leadership.

"We can consider these actions as potentially leading to treason. They could also endanger the state's interests, including the safety of the country's leadership," Prasetyo said.

Ariyo's Military and Government Career
Ariyo previously served as head of the Presidential Secretariat, a position he assumed in November 2024 after a career spanning several assignments in the Indonesian military and the Defense Ministry.

A graduate of the Indonesian Military Academy (Akmil) in 1996, Ariyo began his military career in the Army's Infantry branch. His earlier assignments included serving as deputy commander of the Depok Military District Command (Kodim 0508) before taking on territorial duties at the XVII/Cenderawasih Military Command in Papua.

He served at the Defense Ministry from Oct. 28, 2022, to April 1, 2024, with his latest position being chief of the General Affairs Bureau. Before that, he headed the ministry's Personnel Division and served as a senior analyst at its Personnel Bureau.

Ariyo officially took over as chief of the General Affairs Bureau in November 2022, when he still held the rank of colonel. He was subsequently promoted to brigadier general.

On April 1, 2024, he was assigned as head of the supervisory unit at the Defense University before moving to the Presidential Secretariat in November 2024.

His appointment as acting presidential chief of staff marks another senior government assignment under Prabowo's administration. Ariyo was promoted to lieutenant general in March 2026.
