Jakarta.  The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has arrested nine people in a sting operation in Jakarta over alleged bribery involving a state-owned forestry company.

The detainees include executives from state-owned Eksploitasi dan Industri Hutan V, or Inhutani V, and private sector representatives, KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto told reporters on Wednesday.

Inhutani V, a subsidiary of state forestry firm Perhutani, operates in timber exploitation and forest industry management.

“Yes, nine people [were detained],” Fitroh said, without disclosing further details of the case. “Those arrested are directors from a state-owned enterprise and individuals from the private sector.”

The operation marks the latest in a series of corruption crackdowns targeting state-owned companies in Indonesia, as President Prabowo Subianto’s administration pushes to tighten oversight of the sector.

Under Indonesian law, the KPK has 24 hours to interrogate suspects before deciding whether to press charges. The agency is expected to announce the legal status of the detainees in a press conference.
