Jakarta. Former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Febrie Adriansyah remains an active prosecutor and continues to receive his salary despite being named a corruption suspect, a senior Attorney General's Office official said on Friday.

"That's correct, because there has been no court ruling," Deputy Attorney General for Internal Supervision Rudi Margono told reporters when asked whether Febrie was still receiving his salary.

Rudi said Febrie also continues to report for duty at the Attorney General's Office, although he declined to disclose his current assignment.

Febrie stepped down as deputy attorney general earlier this month after police named him a corruption suspect following the discovery of 74 kilograms of gold bullion and millions of dollars in cash hidden in a concealed cabinet at one of his homes in Bogor.

The police later transferred the investigation to the Attorney General's Office, a move that drew criticism from legal experts over a potential conflict of interest because the institution is investigating one of its own former senior officials.

Although another suspect in the same case was immediately detained, Febrie has remained at liberty.

He was scheduled to undergo a second round of questioning on Friday but had not arrived at the Attorney General's Office by the time this article was published. Two days earlier, he failed to appear for questioning, citing health reasons.

"If the suspect does not appear, investigators, with the assistance of the relevant authorities, may compel the suspect's attendance in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code," Rudi said.
