Jakarta. Indonesia’s men’s singles ace, Jonatan Christie, and mixed doubles pair Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah advanced to the round of 16 at the 2025 Korea Open after defeating their opponents on Wednesday.

At the Suwon Gymnasium, Jonatan overcame Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus with a convincing score of 21-11, 21-7. Meanwhile, Amri/Nita defeated Malaysia’s Chen Zhi Yi/Francesca Corbett in straight games, 21-7, 21-9.

Fourth seed Jonatan showed dominance from the very start. In the first game, he immediately took control with aggressive play and precise shot placement. Ng Ka Long struggled under pressure and had to concede 11-21.

The second game was more competitive as Ng Ka Long tried to fight back by increasing the tempo and forcing longer rallies. Despite the resistance, Jonatan maintained control through patience and effective attack variations, eventually sealing the game 21-17.

The match lasted only 42 minutes, reflecting Jonatan’s consistency and dominance throughout. This victory underlined his readiness to face tougher challenges in the upcoming rounds.

In the round of 16, Jonatan, popularly known as Jojo, will face Lee Chia Hao of Taiwan, who advanced after defeating fellow Taiwanese Chi Yu Jen with scores of 9-21, 21-17, 21-18.

Good news also came from Indonesia’s mixed doubles, as Amri Syahnawi/Nita Violina Marwah booked their spot in the round of 16.

They advanced after outclassing Malaysia’s Chen Zhi Yi/Francesca Corbett 21-7, 21-9, needing only 23 minutes to secure the win.

Earlier, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting also progressed to the round of 16, beating Japan’s Yushi Tanaka 21-17, 21-17.
