Bali. Bali’s international airport received the first visit by the world’s largest commercial plane Airbus A380 on Thursday which officials expect to continue the momentum of a revival in the local tourism industry.

Carrying 615 tourists, the jumbo aircraft operated by Emirates Airlines landed at Ngurah Rai Airport at 4:30 p.m. local time,

"This Emirates flight is boosting the chance for a hike in tourist arrivals in Bali aboard the A380 giant plane," said Faik Fahmi, the chief executive officer of airport operator Angkasa Pura I.

Faik said the historic arrival of the A380 is a positive sign for the recovery of the tourism industry in Indonesia.

Bali Governor I Wayan Koster thanked Emirates for making Bali a destination for the company’s A380 flight from Dubai.

Bali has recorded 1.5 million international arrivals in the first four months of the year, with the target to receive 4.5 million arrivals by the end of the year.

"Given the continued improving situation and the visit by Emirates’ wide-body planes, I’m confident that the number of international arrivals can reach 5 million this year," Wayan Koster said.
