Bali’s 5.78% Growth in Q2 Outpaces Nationwide
Jakarta. Tourist hotspot Bali enjoyed a 5.78% year-on-year (yoy) growth in the second quarter of 2026, even beating what Indonesia had logged nationwide.
Indonesia’s economy expanded 5.29% in Q2 2026, according to the government-run statistics agency BPS. The archipelagic country managed to do better than expected, as some analysts forecasted that it would fall below 5%.
Bali expanded at a faster pace of 5.78% yoy, although this meant the economy was moving more slowly than the 5.95% yoy the province had witnessed in Q2 2025.
“Accomodation as well as food-and-beverage [F&B] industry rose 3.68% yoy," BPS Bali head Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan told a virtual press briefing on Wednesday, citing five-star hotel bookings as an impetus.
The sector still failed to keep up with the 13.76% growth seen in the same period last year. Even so, hotels and restaurants made up 21.91% or the lion's share of the regional economic growth.
This “Island of the Gods” saw a 2.42% downtick in foreign tourists this first half. Bali attracted 3.2 million international tourists, many of whom were Australian and Chinese passport holders. In June alone, the province saw almost 2.5 million arrivals from domestic tourists.
Senior economic minister Airlangga Hartarto said later that day Bali's growth could even soar to 6.1% if combined with the rest of the Nusa Tenggara Islands.
“This shows that tourism, be it from domestic or local travelers, can be a driver,” Airlangga told a separate conference.
