Jakarta. The Constitutional Court is waiting for Prabowo Subianto to submit his election dispute to the court in a move many hope may reduce tensions in Indonesia after violent clashes between protestors and police in Jakarta over the past two days.

The court will consider disputes related to this year's presidential election next month and has until June 28 to issue a ruling on such matters, Constitutional Court spokesman Fajar Laksono said on Thursday.

The losing presidential hopeful was planning to submit his complaint to the court on Thursday, after backtracking from his earlier threats to overturn the election result through mass action.

Fajar said Prabowo and his team of attorneys still have until midnight on Friday to submit their complaint.

He explained that complainants would be required to submit written requests to the court, and these should be accompanied by lists of witnesses and evidence, which must be produced during the trial.

Complainants will be allowed to submit additional documentation before the start of the trial in three weeks.

"The schedule for [hearing disputes on] the presidential election will be on June 11. Then the period of 14 working days starts ticking. So we will have a decision by no later than June 28, Fajar said.

There will also be several hearings on June 14, 17 and 21, he added.

Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, the Prabowo campaign team's director of advocacy and law, confirmed on Thursday that they were planning to submit their dispute to the court later in the day.

Prabowo supporters held a series of protests in Jakarta on Tuesday and Wednesday, which turned deadly after clashes police say were started on purpose by unidentified rioters.

Prabowo has called on his supporters to remain calm and practice restraint.

The Jakarta Police said it expected no further protests on Thursday, but that some personnel would remain on duty near the offices of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) in Central Jakarta.

Komaruddin Hidayat, the rector of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta, said Prabowo must continue with calls on his supporters to stand down, and that he should convince them that street protests are no longer necessary.

"The demonstration is of no use anymore and will not change the election result. The important thing now is for Prabowo-Sandi to ask their supporters to stand down and to emphasize that the fight will continue through legal means in the Constitutional Court," Komaruddin said, referring to Prabowo and his running mate Sandiaga Uno.

"Various violations occurred on both sides, [but to determine] how severe they were and how they can be resolved, must be through legal and constitutional channels," the academic said.
