Toyota to Export 22,000 Yaris Cross Vehicles from Indonesia
Karawang. Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia aims to sell 22,000 Yaris Cross vehicles to export markets from the assembly plant in Karawang, West Java.
A ceremony to mark the first delivery of the hatchback model was conducted in Karawang on Tuesday attended by Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita
Toyota Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Warih Andang Tjahjono said the company aims to sell Yaris Cross of gasoline and hybrid variants to countries in Asia, Central America, and South America.
The export volume of Yaris vehicles is projected to reach 40,000 units by 2025.
The minister welcomed the export sales that further cemented Indonesia’s status as Toyota’s major production base for the export markets and praised the company for expanding the lineup of low-emission and fuel-saving vehicle models in line with the government’s policies.
"We appreciate the fact that the local purchase by Toyota Indonesia reaches 80 percent involving 116 local suppliers," Agus said.
He said four months ago Toyota Indonesia managed to sell vehicles to Australia for the first time in history with the delivery of around 1,209 Fortuner SUVs.
For more than half a century, Toyota has been greatly contributing to the Indonesian economy with investments, jobs, and foreign exchange revenues, Agus said.
Toyota Indonesia has four assembly plants in Karawang and North Jakarta with a combined capacity of 320,000 vehicles and 440,000 engines a year.
In the first four months of the year, Toyota Indonesia sold 40,754 CBU vehicles to the export markets. Overall, the company’s export sales have topped 2 million units in more than 100 countries.
