Jakarta. Indonesia’s halal industry contributed Rp1,102 trillion ($61.60 billion) to the country’s non-oil and gas manufacturing sector in the first half of 2026, accounting for 50.55% of the sector’s total output, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said.

The contribution is supported by Indonesia’s large Muslim consumer base, with around 252 million Muslims among the country’s roughly 280 million people. Muslim household consumption was estimated at Rp5,974.9 trillion in the first half of 2026.

“The halal industry is increasingly demonstrating its strategic role in the national economy. Its contribution to the non-oil and gas manufacturing industry reached Rp1,102 trillion, or around 50.55% of the sector’s total,” Agus said at ICE BSD in South Tangerang on Thursday.

Agus said the figures highlighted the halal industry’s potential to support economic growth and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s manufacturing sector. He identified the large domestic market and the country’s established industrial base as key factors supporting its growth.

The industry is also expanding into global markets. Indonesia exported around $35.72 billion worth of halal industrial products, while imports stood at $17.47 billion.

Agus said the government would continue strengthening the domestic halal industry so Indonesian products can capture a larger share of the global market.

The government also aims to reduce imports of halal products next year by strengthening domestic production and the competitiveness of local halal industries.
