Indonesia Prepares Rp 5 Million Incentive for Electric Motorcycles
Jakarta. Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said on Monday that the government’s planned Rp 5 million ($280) incentive for each electric motorcycle is awaiting the issuance of a Finance Ministry regulation.
Agus said the Industry Ministry is ready to implement the program as soon as the regulation is issued.
However, he could not confirm when the incentive would take effect.
“We are ready. The Industry Ministry, as the technical implementing agency, is ready. Once the finance minister’s regulation is issued, we will implement it,” Agus said.
He added that the government is still discussing which electric motorcycle brands will be eligible for the incentive. The talks involve the Industry Ministry, Danantara Indonesia, and the Finance Ministry.
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa previously proposed introducing incentives for electric motorcycle purchases starting this year.
The program is expected to be rolled out in stages. In the initial phase, the government aims to provide incentives covering around 6 million motorcycles.
Purbaya said at the time that the program remained under review. Preliminary discussions considered a subsidy of around Rp 5 million for each electric motorcycle, although the amount could still change before the policy is finalized.
