Soekarno-Hatta Airport Handles Nearly 2 Million Travelers in 10-Day Eid Rush
Tangerang. Passenger traffic at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Tangerang, Banten, reached 1.98 million over the past 10 days, as travel surged during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period, according to airport operator Angkasa Pura Indonesia.
The figure was served by 13,184 flights, marking a 4.7% increase compared with the 2025 Eid holiday period and a 5.6% rise from pre-pandemic levels in 2019, said Soekarno-Hatta General Manager Heru Karyadi on Tuesday.
The increase was driven by a spike in outbound travel from the Greater Jakarta area at the start of the holiday period. On March 14, passenger numbers reached 184,000, exceeding projections of 177,000. Traffic rose further to 190,000 passengers on March 18.
For the return flow to Jakarta, peak movement is expected on March 28, when passenger numbers are projected to reach 198,387 across 1,221 flights.
“Today we are planning to serve around 190,000 passengers, but the peak is still expected on Saturday, March 28,” Heru said.
Domestic routes such as Denpasar, Kualanamu, Makassar, and Surabaya were the main contributors to the traffic increase, while Singapore and Kuala Lumpur remained the most popular international destinations.
Despite the surge, airport operations have remained smooth, supported by inter-agency coordination and service optimization across terminal areas, Heru said.
To support the return flow, the airport has deployed additional transport options, including 24-hour shuttle bus services. The Skytrain service operates until 11:00 p.m. local time to facilitate passenger mobility.
“We have maintained full personnel readiness at the same level as at the start of the holiday period, but our focus during the return flow is more on arrival areas,” he added.
