Prabowo Plans Russia Visit to Secure Oil Supplies
Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto is planning a visit to Russia to discuss energy cooperation and secure oil supplies, as Indonesia looks to diversify its fuel sources amid rising global prices.
Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya said the visit has been scheduled but the exact timing has yet to be announced.
“There is indeed such a plan, but the official schedule will be announced by the Foreign Ministry,” Teddy said on Friday.
The planned trip comes as Indonesia explores new energy partnerships in response to global oil price volatility and supply disruptions linked to escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has previously signaled Indonesia’s interest in purchasing Russian oil, citing the need to broaden supply sources and reduce reliance on the Middle East.
Current supply chains have been affected by disruptions, including the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route.
Indonesia currently imports crude oil and liquefied petroleum gas from the United States and several African countries, while refined fuel imports are largely sourced from regional hubs such as Singapore and Malaysia.
