Indonesia Expects First Russian Crude Shipment Within Two Weeks
Jakarta. Russia is expected to begin shipping crude oil ordered by Indonesia within the next two weeks, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia said on Monday.
Indonesia and Russia previously agreed to a crude oil purchase deal covering 150 million tons to be delivered gradually through the end of 2026. The agreement followed President Prabowo Subianto’s visit to Russia last month.
Bahlil said the official purchase contract had already been signed and both sides were now discussing technical delivery arrangements.
“We are now discussing the technical aspects of the shipment. It could begin within the next one or two weeks,” Bahlil told reporters in Jakarta.
Earlier, Deputy Energy Minister Yuliot Tanjung said the government was preparing two possible schemes for importing Russian crude oil.
The first option would involve direct imports by state-owned enterprises such as Pertamina. However, Yuliot noted that such a scheme could create complications because existing oil procurement contracts with other suppliers remain in place.
As a result, the government is also considering an alternative import mechanism through a public service agency, which Yuliot said could be more flexible, including from a financing perspective.
The planned imports come as Indonesia seeks to strengthen energy security and diversify crude supply sources amid volatile global energy markets.
