Prabowo Nominates Nephew Thomas Djiwandono for Bank Indonesia Deputy Governor
Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto has nominated Vice Finance Minister Thomas Djiwandono as a candidate for deputy governor of Bank Indonesia, a senior official said on Monday.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that Thomas, commonly known as Tommy, is among several candidates proposed by the president to replace current Deputy Governor Juda Agung, who is reported to have submitted his resignation.
“There are several names being proposed, and it is true that Mr. Tommy, the vice finance minister, is one of them,” Prasetyo said, declining to disclose the other nominees.
Thomas, 52, is the nephew of President Prabowo, and he also holds the position of treasurer at the Gerindra Party, the president’s political vehicle.
Prasetyo said the nominations were submitted following Juda’s planned departure from the central bank, noting that regulations require a replacement to be prepared promptly for selection by the House of Representatives.
According to Prasetyo, the president has formally sent a letter to parliament proposing three candidates to be considered for the deputy governor position through a legislative confirmation process.
As of now, Bank Indonesia’s Board of Governors consists of Governor Perry Warjiyo, whose term runs from 2023 to 2028, Senior Deputy Governor Destry Damayanti, and Deputy Governors Juda Agung, Aida S. Budiman, Filianingsih Hendarta, and Ricky P. Gozali.
