Jakarta. Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) is set to produce tens of thousands of battery packs in 2023 as it launched a prototype of its new charging and battery swap platform that is compatible with all electric motorcycles regardless of the brand, according to a government official.

The IBC on Monday launched the battery asset management services (BAMS) upon the realization that a robust charging infrastructure and battery management were pivotal to boosting e-mobility adoption.

E-motorbike users will be able to use BAMS regardless of their two-wheeler's brand and condition: be it brand new or converted bikes.

“With BAMS, IBC is forecast to produce around 21,000 battery packs in 2023. About 15,000 of those battery packs will go to electric motorbikes, while we will put 6,000 others in swapping stations across Indonesia,” Rabin Indrajat Hattari, the permanent secretary at the State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Ministry, said in Jakarta on Monday.

The BAMS platform will provide integrated charging infrastructure. Rabin added the IBC will partner with electric motorbike producers as well as industry players in two-wheeler conversion for better compatibility and accessibility.

“IBC’s BAMS infrastructure will offer an efficient and reliable battery management solution. By adopting state-of-the-art technology, IBC will monitor the battery health, conduct preventive maintenance, and optimize the charging cycle to extend battery life,” Rabin said.

“This will slash the long-term maintenance costs,” he added.

BAMS is also expected to be a boon for job creation in the technology sector and carbon emission reduction, according to Rabin.

The IBC encompasses four state-owned enterprises, namely miner Antam, mining industry holding Mind ID, oil firm Pertamina, and electricity firm PLN. Each company accounts for 25 percent of the shares at IBC.
