Finance Minister Now Reports Directly to President
Jakarta. The finance minister will now report directly to the president, according to a new decree issued by President Prabowo Subianto.
Previously, the finance minister, along with other economic portfolios, was overseen by the coordinating minister for economic affairs -- a role currently held by Airlangga Hartarto.
The decree, signed by President Prabowo on Monday, specifies that Airlangga’s office will now coordinate the activities of the Manpower Ministry, the Industry Ministry, the Trade Ministry, the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry, the State-Owned Enterprises Ministry, the Investment Ministry, and the Tourism Ministry.
"The change in the Finance Ministry’s position has been made to align with its role and function, giving it the authority to conduct cross-sector coordination," Finance Ministry spokesman Deni Surjantoro said on Tuesday.
Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati, who has held the post under three different presidents, will continue to manage the state budget and oversee tax revenues.
In a social media post on Tuesday, she wrote, "Nothing has changed, except for the higher [revenue] target."
