Toyota Launches First Locally Built Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia
Jakarta. Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) unveiled the locally produced Toyota New Veloz Hybrid on Friday at the 2025 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW).
TAM President Director Hiroyuki Ueda said the launch represents a new chapter for the Veloz lineup, one of Toyota’s best-selling MPVs in Southeast Asia.
“Today we open a new page for Veloz, now equipped with hybrid technology and proudly produced locally in Indonesia,” Ueda said during the launch at ICE BSD City in Tangerang, Banten.
The New Veloz Hybrid will be showcased throughout the GJAW 2025 exhibition, which runs from Nov. 21 to 30. Toyota has priced the model starting at Rp 299 million ($17,900).
Designed as a family-oriented, fuel-efficient MPV, the hybrid Veloz combines an electric motor with a gasoline engine. It is powered by a 1.5-liter engine similar to that used in the Yaris Cross Hybrid, though modified to suit the Veloz’s hybrid characteristics.
Toyota officials said the introduction of the Veloz Hybrid reflects rising consumer interest in environmentally friendly vehicles, particularly among middle-class households seeking lower fuel consumption without shifting to fully electric cars.
TAM said it is confident deliveries to customers will begin in 2026, as the company ramps up production capacity for hybrid models assembled in Indonesia.
