Telkomsel Projects 15.22% Increase in Broadband Traffic During Ramadan and Eid
Jakarta. Telkomsel anticipates a 15.22 percent surge in broadband traffic during this year's Ramadan and Eid period, particularly during the peak of the annual exodus (mudik) and Eid festivities, compared to regular days throughout the year.
Vice President of Global Network Operations at Telkomsel, Galumbang Pasaribu, said the surge in traffic is driven by the increased digital activities of the public, including a 40.84 percent rise in online gaming, a 25.49 percent increase in communication, a 22.61 percent surge in video streaming, an 11.14 percent spike in social media usage, and a predicted 9.17 percent rise in accessing e-commerce platforms.
Compared to previous Ramadan and Eid periods, the increase in traffic is estimated to reach 14.63 percent, with the highest payload recorded at 60.10 petabytes.
"To support the increase in broadband traffic during Ramadan and Eid, Telkomsel has ensured the readiness of broadband connectivity infrastructure with extensive coverage," said Galumbang Pasaribu during a virtual press conference on Wednesday (27/3/2024).
Galumbang emphasized that network technology optimization is focused on 444 crowded points, covering 288 special areas such as town squares, shopping centers, transit transportation areas, pilgrimage routes, residential areas, and worship areas. Currently, Telkomsel has 244,000 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS) with 4G/LTE and 5G technology.
Furthermore, Galumbang added that Telkomsel has implemented the standard architecture of an open digital network (ODA) autonomous network using a zero-touch self-assurance scheme based on artificial intelligence (AI). This technology enables faster detection, optimization, and autonomous restoration of network functions.
