Indonesia Issues Second Notice to Google, Meta Over Child Safety Rules
Jakarta. The Communications and Digital Ministry has issued a second call to Google (YouTube) and Meta (Facebook, Instagram, Threads), escalating pressure on the tech giants over their compliance with Indonesia’s child protection rules in the digital space.
The move follows the companies’ failure to attend an earlier inspection call, with authorities saying both firms had requested to reschedule.
Director General of Digital Space Oversight Alexander Sabar said the postponement meant the obligation to comply with the initial summons remained unmet.
“We have received requests to reschedule, meaning the companies have yet to comply with the inspection notice,” Alexander said on Thursday.
The ministry stressed that the second notice marks part of a formal enforcement process that cannot be delayed. Under prevailing regulations, authorities may issue up to three notices before imposing sanctions.
“Today, we issued a second notice to the relevant parties. Under prevailing regulations, authorities may issue up to three notices before sanctions are imposed. This process refers to Article 32(2) of Government Regulation No. 17/2025 and Article 44(2) of Ministerial Regulation No. 9/2026,” he said.
The government underscored that compliance with child protection rules goes beyond administrative obligations, warning of real risks for minors online.
“Every delay prolongs the risks faced by children in the digital space. Therefore, we demand concrete and timely compliance from all platforms, including global platforms,” Alexander added.
The ministry said monitoring will continue, and further enforcement steps remain on the table if non-compliance persists.
“This is part of the enforcement process. If obligations are not met, further action will be taken in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said.
Reaffirming its stance, the government said child protection remains a non-negotiable priority.
“We expect good faith and concrete action from every electronic system operator. A safe digital space for children is a shared responsibility, and compliance with regulations is part of that commitment,” Alexander concluded.
