Indonesia Collects $2.8 Billion in Digital Taxes Since 2020
Jakarta. Indonesia has collected Rp 48.11 trillion ($2.8 billion) in digital tax revenue from 2020 through the end of February this year, underscoring the growing contribution of the digital economy to state finances, the Directorate General of Taxes said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Inge Diana Rismawanti said the government will continue to expand the tax base and improve compliance among digital businesses through regulatory optimization and the use of information technology.
“The realization of Rp 48.11 trillion in digital tax revenue reflects the increasing contribution of the digital economy to state revenue,” Inge said in a statement.
The total includes Rp 37.4 trillion from value-added tax (VAT) on e-commerce, Rp 4.64 trillion from fintech (peer-to-peer lending), Rp 1.96 trillion from cryptocurrency taxes, and Rp 4.11 trillion from other digital tax streams.
The government has appointed 260 electronic commerce operators as tax collectors under the digital taxation framework.
Taxes on crypto assets, including income tax and VAT, were introduced in 2022 and have shown strong growth, rising from Rp 220.89 billion in 2023 to Rp 796.73 billion in 2025. In the first two months of this year alone, crypto-related taxes contributed Rp 84.7 billion to state revenue.
Fintech taxes, also introduced in 2022, have recorded steady — though more modest — growth over the same period.
