ABB Launches Next-Generation Distributed Control System in Jakarta
Jakarta. ABB, the global electrification and automation company, on Wednesday launched the latest version of its flagship distributed control system, designed to help industries modernize operations gradually while maintaining stable and secure performance.
The ABB System 800xA 7.0 was unveiled in Jakarta as a strategic evolution of distributed control technology, enabling digital upgrades without disrupting core operations across the energy sector.
The approach allows companies to adopt advanced monitoring, analytics, and optimization tools step by step, while keeping mission-critical control environments secure, said Anders Maltesen, president of ABB Energy Industries Asia.
“Meeting electricity demand requires expanding generation capacity while accelerating the adoption of new and renewable energy to reduce emissions and support the transition to a more sustainable energy system,” Maltesen said.
System 800xA 7.0 also provides access to ABB’s recently launched Automation Extended program, which strengthens operational reliability through advanced digital solutions that improve data flow, enable smarter automation, and enhance efficiency.
The platform is particularly relevant for Indonesia, where energy infrastructure spans thousands of islands and relies on diverse power sources, including geothermal.
Beyond the new automation ecosystem, the release introduces several key enhancements, including Extension Packs as a modular delivery model, broader operating system and virtualization support, stronger cybersecurity protection, and expanded engineering tools and connectivity.
As a long-term support release, System 800xA 7.0 offers a stable upgrade path for both existing installations and new projects, ensuring compatibility with modern Windows operating systems and virtualization platforms while minimizing operational disruption.
ABB said the technology is designed to accelerate access to operational data, improve industrial performance, and deliver long-term value for customers and Indonesia’s energy sector, while supporting the country’s broader digital transformation and energy resilience.
