Pullman Hotel Fire in Jakarta Suspected to Stem From Electrical Fault
Jakarta. Police will deploy a forensic laboratory team to investigate the cause of a fire that broke out at the Pullman Hotel in West Jakarta on Saturday morning, authorities said.
Grogol Petamburan police chief Reza Aditya said the cause of the blaze had not been officially determined, while an Indonesia Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (Inafis) team from the West Jakarta Police had conducted an initial examination at the scene.
“The cause of the fire is not yet known for certain. The forensic team will later inspect the location,” Reza told news agency Antara in Jakarta on Saturday.
The fire broke out at the hotel on Jalan Letjen S. Parman in Tanjung Duren Selatan, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, with firefighters receiving the emergency report at 7:59 a.m. local time.
According to the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, seven fire trucks were initially dispatched and arrived at the scene at around 8:04 a.m. Firefighters began extinguishing operations at 8:05 a.m. and managed to contain the blaze within about two minutes.
Cooling operations began at 8:15 a.m. to ensure no remaining hotspots could trigger a secondary fire, with the entire operation declared complete at 9:15 a.m.
The West Jakarta fire department deployed a total of 14 fire trucks and 70 personnel during the response.
The agency said the fire was suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault on the building's second floor, although the police have yet to establish an official cause.
According to the initial emergency report, the incident began at around 7:54 a.m. when hotel security personnel checking a fire escape on the P5 floor smelled smoke. They subsequently found flames on the P4 floor and attempted to extinguish them using a portable fire extinguisher.
The attempt was unsuccessful, prompting the security staff to alert the West Jakarta fire department.
Authorities said the fire was eventually extinguished and the situation at the hotel was declared safe.
No casualties or estimates of material losses have been reported so far.
