Indosat Champions Digital Talent and Data Security in Higher-Education AI Adoption
Jakarta. Indonesia is entering a pivotal stage in its journey toward a more modern, technology-driven higher-education ecosystem. This ambition was reflected in the “Indonesia AI Day for Higher Education,” an exclusive forum that brought together university leaders, rectors, and academic decision-makers to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) can accelerate the digital transformation of higher education.
The event served as a strategic platform to discuss how innovation is redefining teaching models, operational processes, and the future of student engagement on campus.
According to Director & Chief Business Officer of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, M. Danny Buldansyah, technology will be the foundation for realizing Indonesia’s long-term national ambition.
“Indosat’s vision is empowering every Indonesian. To achieve Indonesia Emas 2045, technology is the only way forward. Digitalization and AI are inevitable,” Danny said.
He added that AI, automation, and digital transformation are now indispensable elements in Indonesia’s path toward the 2045 vision.
Addressing the Digital-Talent Gap
One of the core challenges discussed during the forum is Indonesia’s severe shortage of digital talent. Research shows that the country currently produces only 1,000–2,000 digital talents per year, far short of the national demand of around 1 million talents annually.
“Without technology and digitalization, that target is impossible to reach. This is why Indosat positions itself at the frontier of AI development in Indonesia,” Danny emphasized.
Over the past 18 months, Indosat has made substantial investments in:
- Strategic partnerships
- Digital infrastructure development
- Strengthening internal AI capabilities
These initiatives not only accelerate Indosat’s internal transformation but are also designed to benefit other industries, including education.
Indosat now offers services and solutions that enable universities to integrate AI into academic and administrative systems -- supporting campuses as they adapt to new learning styles and prepare graduates for the digital economy.
Security-First AI Adoption
Danny highlighted that AI adoption must go hand-in-hand with responsible data management, especially given concerns over the privacy of student records, academic data, and institutional operations.
To address this, Indosat developed a shared infrastructure model designed to ensure:
- Data is not distributed
- Data cannot be used by third parties
- Data remains secure even in shared computing environments
Indosat also complements its AI services with robust and secure connectivity to protect sensitive information -- including admissions processes and academic records -- from breaches or misuse.
“Security is critical. We want every institution to feel protected when adopting digital and AI solutions,” Danny said.
The AI Day for Higher Education marks an important milestone for universities seeking to accelerate their transition toward a smart-campus ecosystem. With increasingly accessible technology and stronger industry collaboration, universities are expected to:
- Manage academic data more intelligently
- Deliver more personalized learning experiences
- Improve operational efficiency
- Produce graduates who are globally competitive
A united push between industry and academia is viewed as a key catalyst for helping Indonesia enter a more digitally mature era.
